I think there are phones that don't work for them, for example, on my Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 it doesn't work, but on Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 it does.

If you have an old android smartphone tucked away on a drawer somewhere this is a must buy. The controller slots into your usbc port and grips the top. The phone feels nice and snug and i can even put my old case on it for some added protection. The buttons are actually pretty cool looking; i haven't seen any like them before. They're transparent and each one has its own colored led. Imagine the buttons on an xbox controller but instead of the plastic being colorful there was a light shining through giving them their colors. It's a really cool effect! The controller is comfortable to hold even with big hands. The buttons are nice and quiet except for the l1 and r1 buttons which are both very clicky. Not a huge deal but worth mentioning. Like i said, if you have an old usbc android phone sitting around, connect it to wifi, download the daijisho front end, transfer some roms onto it and you basically have an rg405v vertical. I just wish it came in wood coloring!
